Exploring the art and history of vintage media.

Anne Balsamo founded 7 Moons Media Studios in 2024 as a space to support restoration and creative projects using vintage media devices and legacy content.

Her research, teaching, design, and art work explores the interplay between technology and culture.

Throughout her 30-year career, she has engaged with this theme in her work across diverse creative domains, including academia, corporate research, start-up enterprises, cultural activism, and the design of public interactives.

Her personal collection of vintage media devices includes generations of Apple computers, historically significant cameras and projectors, analog televisions, 20th century sound machines, and multi-format video players.

She curates an archive of 20th century magazines, pulp novels, cyberpunk films, and ephemera from mid-century popular culture.

As an artist, she creates mixed media sculptures using analog televisions and remixed visual materials.

She directs two labs at the University of Texas at Dallas.

The Media Archeology Lab engages undergraduate students in research on historic media devices.

IQ Design is a multi-disciplinary design-research lab whose members  are graduate students in the doctoral program in Arts, Technology, and Emerging Communication (ATEC).
